The Weerwaterzone will be the new center; together with the heart of Almere, the zone will be a complete city center: shopping center, social meeting point, recreational space and a high-quality housing and working area.

The basis for the proposed design ‘Almere A6’ is the obligation to find a sustainable solution for spatial challenges. The central element in this proposition is the broadening of the A6 at ground level. This will lead to immediate results, and because it causes less inconvenience it increases the ability of the area to support the program. The already existent elements of the program outside of the area will experience less inconveniences. The qualitative improvement of the area will give the area a more central role in the city and releases part of the potential of the area.
Effectively, the profile of the planning area will be moved from the periphery to a central location.
Because the A6 will run underneath the surface, a wealth of programmatic opportunities for the city arise. Not only will the barriers and the environmental pollution of the highway disappear, the entire location will become central to the city. Possible uses are a robust urban park, recreational facilities, houses, offices and big-scale facilities.
